Terrebonne Parish has about 100 churches.
The bulk of the first settlers were Catholic, though their church was in
Thibodaux. American settlers brought their Protestant faiths, such
as the Methodist, Presbyterian, and Episcopal. The first church in
the parish was a Methodist Church (1845) followed by the St. Francis Catholic
Church, and the Presbyterian and Episcopal Churches in the 1850s.
Other denominations (Baptist, Pentacostal, etc.) followed, though Catholicism
remains the most common denomination among the population.
